Culture Cry Wolf

Hey. I'm about to get infomercial, so prepare yourself. (Imagine a shouting voice and angry people montages) Are you sick and tired of the same old industry fueled, mainstream maintained bullsh*t some call "today's music"? Well I've got great news! You're not alone, and boom, I've got a solution for you! No, not heroin. It's Minneapolis band Culture Cry Wolf. I recently purchase their 6 song EP The Wesely Opus Sessions, and whammy- I was hooked.

Their "Hip hop, Reggae, Punk and Ska" sound has hints of 311 and Sublime, which explains why I am so drawn to them. All the genres come together easily to form a bizarre, yet perfect combination. The smooth flow of reggae-ska and a one-two punch with punk and hip hop... Such a beautfiul idea. And Culture Cry Wolf has truly mastered meshing it all together to create an upbeat, complex sound unique to them.

And on the performance side- "Their lively music neatly captures the energy and atmosphere of a sunny summer afternoon in Minneapolis; their live shows could melt the ice off the roof of any venue."
-Tyler Hakes (abovethegroundmagazine.com) Damn! Sounds like a performance worth going to.

Live and Direct from the Soulcrate

Let's talk about Soulcrate Music. I'm going to their concert tonight and I'm pretty damn pumped about the show for a few reasons.

1. It may be true that any live music is fun... But Soulcrate puts on a craaazy show. Elbows from every direction and you can only hope that the girl in front of you isn't wearing heels when he stomps backwards on top of your toes.

2. Soulcrate is definitely one of my favorite bands... And the fact that they're a great live band is major plus. I've seen them close to 10 times and I'm still coming back for more.

 3. They just make feel good music for a good time. Show's gonna be dope.

ATMOSPHERE

Atmosphere, the hip hop group from Minneapolis, returns with their 7th official studio album. "The Family Sign comes from a place well refined and firmly planted, from a universal perspective. It's about being okay with losing friends and strengthening your bonds with others, celebrating the person who's been the most positive in your life, your kids, your homies, leaving the people you need to behind, and bringing the ones you love with you. It's about your family, your time and the time you have with them. It's about living and dying. It's the truth about family, that it comes from loyalty as much as biology. It's about breaking down your perceptions of family and really appreciating the people who've made you who you are and continue doing so." -Rhymesayers Entertainment

Big Promises from Rhymesayers... luckily Atmosphere has the chops to deliver. Must buy album. So, do it.

Winner winner chicken dinner

The costumes, the attitude, the lyrical content. Well it's all weird, but at the same time awesome. Watch Yes Man, and learn to looove Munchausen By Proxy.

Although Munchausen By Proxy is a fictional band in the movie Yes Man, they still deserve some recognition. Plus, I'm feeling a bit aloof, so best not dive into any real music today. The song is Uh-Huh and it is HILARIOUS. Not to mention the amazing Zooey Deschanel is in it... So enough said?

Song of the day

Well, it's the beginning of the week... I'm a bit tired at the moment... and a cheesy song that's been on my mind lately takes the cake. It comes from the crazy party girl who I believe may be made of glitter and leather, has a dollar sign in her name, and supposedly has an IQ of 140. Still don't know? Haha of course you do. KE$HA. And the song is SLEAZY.

*Check out the parody by the Kloons on youtube!

Know It All

"Know It All"
I know a girl with an artist trapped deeply inside her
She provides for herself, she don't need you to like her
She dresses like a famous portrait
She talks like an angel with the makeup of dangerous torment
She don't wanna get married, she wanna get carried
Away, and figure out how to display all the things she wants to say
She would try to paint, but she don't got the patience that it looks like it takes
Plus her thoughts are too colorful to fit inside a picture
Her spirit is the genuine elixir
Her personality is such a brilliant, fucking work of art
She's a devil with a sensitive heart
She don't like the boys that feel like they gotta be cool
And she don't like the fake hoes in cosmetology school
But one day, she'll show the world
That she's no ordinary, Goddamn woman

When I listen to this song, I hear so much of myself in the lyrics. I don't need you to like me; I am me, and I will never aim to change to please someone else. The turmoil of my mind is filled with longing thoughts; I miss my brother and what could have been. There was once a time when everything was easy, everyone was carefree, and boys didn't matter. It's not that I've been broken a lot- don't worry, I'm too guarded to really give a boy anything that matters. Honestly though, I think it's more me than them; how can I be with anyone until I find myself? Right now, I'd much rather get carried away to figure my life out. I want to go far away, to a free and new place, where I can finally experience clarity and live a life free from preconcieved notions. The colors of my lively mind will escape, allowing my soul to drink in the elixir of my spirit, and become the girl my expectations have set me up to be. I just want to show the world something great- I'm no ordinary woman.

Comin' in Hot...

Music. Let's listen to some and then talk about it. Or something.

This be me.

"I want people to know that almost everything that concerns them in their daily lives is of no consequence whatsoever. Nothing and nobody is really important, so people, realising that, should get on with their lives, go mad, take their clothes off, jump in the canal, jump into one of those supermarket trolleys, race 'round the supermarket and steal Mars bars and, y'know, kiss kittens and sit on the back of bread vans.
Whatever makes people happy they should just do it, 'cos time is a mere scratch and life is nothing"
